Austin Tango Marathon DJs
2026 Lineup
Fil Cruz Jr.
Fil loves dancing Argentine tango and the tango music. Having been a DJ since 2006 in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, he’s excited to see how Argentine tango affects so many people in so many ways. Fil is continually on the search for those rare tracks, transfers and new recordings of tango music. He has assembled an eclectic collection of both traditional, nuevo and alternative tango music, which he uses to connect with the dancers and their energy. When Fil is DJing, the milonga usually runs into overtime. He also hosts the weekly Austin Tango Practica every Sunday at 7 p.m. It’s Austin’s longest running practica since 1996.
Michael Plaks
Why did I start DJ-ing post-Covid? We were all itching to resume dancing, but we wanted a more inspiring music. So I decided to play the tandas my friends actually wanted to dance to.
My method remains simple. If l listen to a particular tango while sitting at my desk, and my feet start moving on their own – it goes on my play list. And I agree that classics are classics for a reason, and roads less traveled are sometimes less traveled for a reason.
I prefer what I consider scenic routes, in travel and in music. Allow me to invite you tango travel with me
DJ Tim Hall
Tim has been a DJ for over 30 years starting in the 90s Hip Hop clubs. Trained as both a DJ and Sound Engineer he has worked many jobs including running the main boards for 15-18k people during live performances with a Grammy Winner. He has successfully transferred that knowledge to Argentine Tango where he has DJ’d for almost 20 years all over the world.
As a seasoned dancer, he knows the differences in how dancers approach Argentine Tango, and what each type of dancer likes in the music. He thoughtfully balances Rhythmic and Melodic songs and Tandas to weave an energy building and fun night.
Phyllis Williams doesn’t really belong anywhere in space or time; music is the closest concept of a home that she has. Born in Dallas, raised in Mexico and bouncing around the globe has been the stuff of life. Then, there’s TANGO. From the moment she heard it, she knew what was important about being alive. Initially in love with the fire and passion of Piazolla, to whose music she witnessed her first tango while Pablo Zieglar and his quintet performed a Dallas concert twenty five years ago, Phyllis has steadily been delving into the rich musical tradition during her yearly pilgrimages to Buenos Aires, befriending DJs in tango venues throughout the world, guest DJing and adding to her collection, knowledge and experience to bring you the best of Golden Age music.
